WFH Tip: Morning Motivation
Do you have a hard time getting going in the morning when you are working from home? I certainly do. I’ve heard stories that I was a morning person as a child, but that seems to be a thing of the past.
If you don’t have a meeting first thing in the morning, it can be hard to get out of bed and settle into work in your work zone. This might be an indication that you going through office detox, so keep an eye out for that. Otherwise, some of the tricks I’ve developed over the years might help.
One thing that can help is to get up, take a shower, and get dressed like you normally would have if you were going into the office. You have some pathways in your brain that will help you shift into work mode more easily if you reactivate your typical morning routine. Staying in your pajamas all day can make it hard to transition from “home you” to “work you.” More on that in future posts.
One trick that sometimes helps me is to treat myself to something special in the morning if I get up early and head straight to my work zone. For me, it might be my favorite coffee blend or a special breakfast pastry I don’t usually have. Pick something that you know you will get out of bed for.
